Your enemies have become lovers and are all set to live blissfully together for the rest of their lives. You’re itching to send your book out to an agent but on reading it through again, you’re a little unsure about how they got there. The story seems fragmented in places. Something is missing from one of your characters, which makes you feel that you wouldn’t have stuck around for the past year to get together with him, like your heroine did. My critique or developmental editing service would be able to suggest help with plot holes, character arcs or any other aspect of your storytelling.
Critique
When you read it through, are you completely sure of the characters’ motivations? Do they evolve and change over the course of the novel? Are all the ends tied up? Has each of the subplots been resolved? If you feel you would benefit from a set of trained eyes to look over your novel, then you might want to consider my critique service.
I would read your novel and produce a report, guiding you on areas of strength and provide suggestions on aspects of the book to focus on.
Developmental edit
This is an in-depth edit, looking at areas such as plot, character arcs, point of view and ‘show, don’t tell’. My suggestions would be written on the manuscript itself and accompanied by a report, similar to that in my critique service.
Copy-edit
Thrilled with your plot and loving your characters, but not quite sure about your choice of words or didn’t notice that Ben drove from Norwich to Cardiff in two hours? That’s where my copy-editing service comes in. I can look at how you have crafted your sentences and ensure that your timelines are correct.
Proofreading
You don’t want your manuscript rejected because of spelling mistakes or because the layout is inconsistent. I offer proofreading for this, which is a final look through the manuscript before you upload it ready to sit on someone’s e-reader or send it to an agent.
What happens when you contact me?
I’ll send you a form, so that I can learn more details about your book and what your ambitions are for it.
Next, I would ask for a copy of your manuscript, from which I would edit a sample and provide a set quotation.
If you decide to go ahead, I would take a 10% deposit to book you a spot in my schedule.
